Pandemic has made Australia a country ‘plagued by fear’
Infectious Diseases Expert Dr Clay Golledge says the COVID-19 pandemic has made Australia a country “so plagued by irrational fear” it has “lost perspective on things”. Dr Golledge said Perth’s lockdown was particularly an “overreaction”, saying the government could have “waited another day or so to see where this was going”. “To do what we did, it’s pretty typical of what’s happened with the two previous lockdowns, three cases and here we are again.” He said aiming for zero-COVID is “not the way forward”, saying “we’ve got to look to open up, we’ve got to look to be vaccinated, to live with the virus". “We’ve got to stop being so petrified of this virus … and get on with things.”
