Stephen Sondheim dies aged 91
American composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim has died at the age of 91. The Broadway legend co-created theatre classics including "West Side Story", "Sweeney Todd" and "Into the Woods" in a career spanning over 60 years. He wrote the lyrics to the original 1957 Broadway version of West Side Story which is now being adapted into a film by director Stephen Spielberg. Mr Sondheim received eight Tony Awards, eight Grammys and an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1991. He reportedly died suddenly - the cause of death is not confirmed.
