NSW final-year medical students to be eligible for paid positions
Final-year medical students across NSW will become eligible for paid positions in a collaboration between universities and the state government. Each year more than a thousand students will be selected to take part in the Assistant in Medicine initiative which is set to become a permanent fixture after being introduced as a trial program at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. 1,100 students have taken up positions across regional and metropolitan hospitals since 2020.
