Medicare rebate ‘has not kept pace’ with cost of providing care

The Medicare rebate has “not kept pace” with the cost of providing care for many decades, according to AMA Vice President Dr Danielle McMullen. “Doctors are forced to pass on those fees and the rebate back to patients just isn’t adequate,” she told Sky News Australia. The government recently unveiled its Strengthening Medicare report last week, following a National Cabinet meeting where first ministers across the country committed to overhauling the Medicare system.
