Sydney covered in smoke for second day as backburning continues
Sydneysiders are now being warned to prepare for another day of poor air quality. It follows hazard-reduction burns on the city’s outskirts which took place on Monday. The targeted zones of the controlled burns are areas which did not burn during the 2019 Black Summer fires. Australians who are immunocompromised have been urged to stay indoors. Firefighters are now racing to finish the planned backburning before temperatures reach 30 degrees this weekend.
