Lieutenant General John Frewen urges NSW residents to get vaccinated

Lieutenant General John Frewen says all Australians may have access to two doses of vaccine by the end of the year, rather than the previous target of one. In an exclusive interview with Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell, General Frewen insisted he could not give extra Pfizer supply to New South Wales, despite pleas from Premier Gladys Berejiklian as the state battles the Delta strain. General Frewen also urged NSW to take up hundreds of thousands of Astrazeneca vaccines available for the general population. "We're saying every Australian who wants access to a first dose will have that opportunity this year (but) I think with the supply that's coming on, we've got a really fantastic chance to get the vast majority of Australians fully vaccinated this year if they choose to do so," General Frewen said. from Life and Lifestyle | Lifestyle and Living | Daily Telegraph https://ift.tt/2V1fSsR

It will take a ‘massive effort’ to reach the PM’s 70 per cent vaccination target

AMA NSW Chair Dr Michael Bonning says it will take a “massive effort” for Australia to reach the Prime Minister’s target of having 70 per cent of the eligible population vaccinated. Mr Morrison has confirmed there will be “special rules” which apply to vaccinated persons after 70 per cent of Australia’s eligible population is inoculated and the country moves to Phase B of the roadmap out of the pandemic. “We have good models of that from overseas to see what it looks like when you start reaching higher and higher vaccine numbers," Dr Bonning told Sky News Australia. “Now overseas we still haven’t seen those numbers yet of 70 per cent of your eligible population vaccinated that the PM is looking for so it’s going to take a massive effort. “But it’s also going to take an effort that relies upon people being motivated to do this. “Not just motivated by what’s going on overseas or the GP contacting them, but actually by getting out there and saying I need to find somewhere to get vacc

Decision to redirect Pfizer doses from rural NSW to Sydney schools meets criticism

The national body representing regional doctors has criticised the decision to redirect Pfizer vaccines from rural New South Wales towns to senior school students in Sydney. The Rural Doctors Association of Australia said it will put critical health services in those communities at risk. RDAA President Dr John Hall said it was “completely unconscionable” to redirect up to 40,000 doses from the country to the city when there are health workers in the regions who are yet to be vaccinated. Dr Hall said there was a volume frontline, aged care and GP works who have not had access to a vaccine in regional NSW. from Life and Lifestyle | Lifestyle and Living | Daily Telegraph https://ift.tt/3j5TA0V

Scarlett Johansson sues Disney

‘Black Widow’ actress Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney for lost earnings after the media giant put the film onto Disney+ and not in cinemas. Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood says the ‘Black Widow’ movie, made by Disney-owned Marvel Studios, was released onto the streaming site due to COVID concerns. Ms Johansson claimed this was a breach of contract as she is entitled to a cut of the box office and the move to stream it lost the ability to earn the extra revenue. from Life and Lifestyle | Lifestyle and Living | Daily Telegraph https://ift.tt/3f8827y

Americans ‘don’t want to see social justice activism’ during the Olympics

Olympian Lolo Jones said many Americans don't want to see US athletes using their platforms for their social justice activism. Some athletes have decided to use their platform to advocate for their own causes The US soccer teams takes the knee in support of the Black Lives Matter movement while hammer thrower Gwen Berry turned her back on the US national anthem during last month's Olympic trials. "I think sometimes people just want to tune in to watch sports, to just watch sports, and they're not there for the political side of it,"Ms Jones told Fox News. "But then on the athlete’s side, the athletes are like, ‘this is the biggest platform I've ever had and I want to speak my causes.’" The Olympics Opening Ceremony in Tokyo drew the lowest ratings in 33 years with just 16.7 million viewers in America, which constitutes a 37 per cent drop from the 2016 ceremony. from Life and Lifestyle | Lifestyle and Living | Daily Telegraph https://ift.tt/3yaEjCo
